Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate the Kiwanis Club of Sheraden on its 65th Anniversary and commends them for the tremendous work they do for the communities of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 10, 2016, to be "Kiwanis Club of Sheraden Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Sheraden was chartered on May 10, 1951 and is celebrating 65 years of serving the western neighborhoods of the City of Pittsburgh with an anniversary dinner on May 12, 2016; and,

WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Sheraden (Kiwanis) has always been committed to the community and its children which is evident by the numerous events they sponsor throughout the year; and,

WHEREAS, the Kiwanis revitalized the war memorial in Sheraden, they collect supplies for veterans at the VA Hospital, hosts an annual Valentine Party and sing-along at Goodwill Plaza Senior High Rise, participates in clean up days, supports local Meals on Wheels, co-sponsors the annual Sheraden Day Picnic and Sheraden Shines Night, erected and maintains the "Welcome to Sheraden" sign, the flower beds around the sign, the Community Bulletin Board and the flags over Sheraden during holidays; and,

WHEREAS, the Kiwanis reaches out to our kids by distributing backpacks and school supplies, sponsors an annual Easter Egg Hunt, a Health and Safety Fun Fair, Books for Babies, youth athletic teams, local Eagle Scout projects and the Toys for Tots collection with Firefighters Local 1 and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve; and,

WHEREAS, in addition, the Kiwanis sponsors K-Family Clubs such as the Aktion Club, for special needs young adults, the Builders Club and K-Kids Club at Pittsburgh's Langley K-8, provides scholarship opportunities for high school seniors and provided after school clubs at Emanuel Methodist Church; and,

WHEREAS, most of all, the Kiwanis Club of Sheraden is about fellowship. The Club enjoys each other's company by attending weekly meetings, inter-club visits to other Kiwanis Clubs, Summer outings to members' homes, Kiwanis Conventions and Conferences and more; and,
