WHEREAS, May 2nd-6th marks OSHA’s National Stand Down to Prevent Falls Week, an occasion to raise awareness and promote safety in the construction industry; and,
WHEREAS, in 2014 alone, nearly 300 construction workers lost their lives as a result of falls on worksites, and according to OSHA, many of these cases could have been prevented with improved training programs; and,
WHEREAS, the Master Builders Association of Western Pennsylvania, the leading voice for the region’s construction industry, partnered with Simcoach Games, a video game designer based in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, to develop and launch Harness Heroes, an innovative smartphone and tablet app aimed at training construction workers on the proper techniques to prevent falls on the worksite; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh has built a reputation for forging strong partnerships across all sectors, and the launch of Harness Heroes exemplifies the power of collaboration between the business community and the city’s booming technology sector; and,
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh’s flourishing technology companies can offer government, nonprofit organizations and corporations the expertise and innovation necessary to achieve their goals, carry out their missions, keep their employees safe, and even save lives in the 21st century, and as our city continues to grow, so too does the importance of these partnerships; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby applaud Master Builders Association of Western Pennsylvania and Simcoach Games for developing Harness Heroes app and embodying the power of partnership in Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 3, 2016 to be “Harness Heroes Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
