Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commend and celebrates the many accomplishments and career of Mr. Ken Gormley, Esq., and does hereby declare Wednesday, April 27, 2016 to be "Key Gormley, Esq. Day" in the city of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on Wednesday, April 27, the Amen Corner will be hosting the 56th Annual Judicial Reception at the Carlton Restaurant; and,

WHEREAS, this year the Amen Corner will be honoring Ken Gormley, Esq., President-Elect and Professor of Law, Duquesne University, as the recipient of the Judge James R. McGregor Award; and,

WHEREAS, President-Elect Gormley earned his B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1977 and received his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1980, going on to a superlative career in law and education, joining the faculty of Duquesne University in 1994 as an associate professor, winning a promotion to full professor in 1997; and,

WHEREAS, during his 22 years of service at Duquesne, Mr. Gormley has served on the Editorial Board of Duquesne University Press (2001-2005); as Associate Vice President for Interdisciplinary Scholarship and Special Projects for the University (2007-2008); as Chair of the President-Elect Search Committee for the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business (2012-2013); and as organizer of numerous high-profile programs featuring U.S. Supreme Court Justices, the Attorney General of the United States, the President of Costa Rica, and other events that garnered national attention; and,

WHEREAS, President-Elect Gormley is a renowned author and editor, contributing to numerous writings and legal texts such as "The Pennsylvania Constitution: A treatise on Rights and Liberties," "Archibald Cox: Conscience of a Nation", and "The Death of American Virtue: Clinton vs. Starr", a New York Times Bestseller that received the American Bar Association's prestigious Silver Gavel Award (Honorable Mention); and,

WHEREAS, President-Elect Gormley has testified in the U. S. Senate three times, as well as in the Pennsylvania State Senate; has served as President of the Allegheny County Bar Association, the first academic to hold that position in the organization's 137-year history; and from 1998-2002, served as Mayor of his community in Fores...
