Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Lincoln Avenue Church of God for its long and distinctive service to the community; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, April 24, 2016 to be "Lincoln Avenue Church of God Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Lincoln Avenue Church of God had its beginnings as a body of believers known as the First Church of God in 1894. The congregation held services at various locations throughout the City of Pittsburgh and Wilkinsburg. In 1910, Pastor R. J. Smith came to lead the congregation and by 1913, through prayerful determination, the church grew and was incorporated as the Church of God Missionary Home; and,

WHEREAS, under the leadership of a number of God fearing men, the church continued to grow, which lead to the purchase of a church home at 309 Paulson Avenue in 1917. That church home was the first of its kind purchased by a black congregation in Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, in 1953, under the direction of Pastor Clifton Morgan, the church purchased the Missionary Alliance Church at 404 Lincoln Avenue, their current location. In 1973, the current sanctuary was dedicated. The Lincoln Avenue Church of God is currently blessed with the pastoral leadership of Reverend Thomas E. Spencer; and,

WHEREAS, today, the Lincoln Avenue Church of God continues to minister to its congregation and the community through various church organizations such as the Diaconate Board, Adult and Children's Sunday School, Bible Study, the Women of the Church of God, the Men's Organization, Evangelism and Outreach, the Sanctuary Choir, the Hospitality Committee and others; and,

WHEREAS, the Lincoln Avenue Church of God has been blessed to continue providing for the needs of its congregation and the community through worship, prayer, outreach and shepherding with the goal of spiritual and social enrichment.; and,

WHEREAS, the Lincoln Avenue Church of God has reached a significant and historic milestone and is commemorating their 106th Anniversary with a four-day celebration as they move in God's will to continue building on their legacy; and,
