Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Daniel Family for their dedication and love for the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 19, 2016, to be "The Daniel Family Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, for decades, the Daniel Family has been committed to serving their community which began with the late Mary Lou Daniel, who raised nine children and inspired them to have a servant's heart as they watched her serve others in the West End and Elliott neighborhoods of Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, growing up across from Herschel Park in Elliott, the Daniel children, Allison, who currently resides in Kansas, Bessy, Denise, John, who currently resides in Tennessee, Larry, Marty, Maureen, Steve and Theresa spent countless hours at the park playing sports, swinging on swings and conversing with the park's attendant and long-time friend Julian Yarnot ; and,

WHEREAS, the park became an integral part of their daily lives which is why many members of the Daniel Family serve the Herschel Park community today; and,

WHEREAS, as children, the Daniel siblings participated in the Elliott West End Athletic Association (EWEAA) playing baseball and softball. They were active in fundraising efforts as young athletes and often volunteered to clean the park or line the fields in preparation for games; and,

WHEREAS, their volunteer efforts with the EWEAA continued into adulthood as they volunteered as coaches, concession stand volunteers, assisted in fundraising efforts, clean-up days, youth outreach activities and became board members. Bessy has volunteered as a coach and board member for over 30 years; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to the athletic association, the Daniel Family has also volunteered for the Adopt-A-Highway Program, Guardian Angels Parish, the West End Overlook Holiday Events, The Caring Place, to name a few as well as communities across the United States; and,

WHEREAS, their mother's long standing legacy to service to the community is in the process of continuing through the work of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and,
