WHEREAS, J. Matthew Simon grew up with a love for science, and went on to become a distinguished professor, a visionary leader, a dedicated volunteer, and a loving husband and father; and,
WHEREAS, Matthew Simon received his undergraduate degree from Albright College, and went on to earn a Doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1967 he married Janet DiPasquale in Pittsburgh, and shortly after, accepted a job as an assistant professor of chemistry at Point Park University; and,
WHEREAS, Matthew Simon was promoted to director of Point Park's European Campus in Switzerland in January of 1973, and became the chairman of the university's Department of Natural Science and Engineering Technology; and,
WHEREAS, through his hard work and commitment, Matthew Simon became president of Point Park, and served in that role from 1986 to 1995. As President, Matthew was instrumental in purchasing the Bank Center that was converted into the University Center which now houses the University Library, the George Rowland White Theater, and classroom and office facilities. After his tenure, Matthew continued his work at Point Park as a distinguished professor until he retired in 2007; and,
WHEREAS, in 2005, Matthew Simon was chosen by the Pennsylvania Senate Democratic Leadership to serve as their representative to the Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority, where he served as a volunteer until his death; and,
WHEREAS, Matthew Simon, became Secretary of the Board of the Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority in 2005 and served in that capacity for his entire tenure on the ICA; and,
WHEREAS, through his tireless effort as a volunteer, Matthew Simon was instrumental in providing the leadership necessary to guide the City towards financial stability; and,
WHEREAS, Matthew Simon served the ICA in an exemplary fashion by never missing a meeting, working with stakeholders from city and council, county, state officials, and the employees of the city; and,...
