Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 22, 2016 to be "Alan Perry Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Alan Perry began his involvement in the Boy Scout program in the early 1970s in Cleveland, Ohio and continued in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as Master for Boy Scout Troop 281 & Pack 281 in the Manchester neighborhood on Pittsburgh’s Northside, with a weekly commitment of over 40 years; and,

 

WHEREAS, he supports the Boy Scout program as a proven model of the ability to train boys to become competent, dynamic and resourceful leaders who solve today’s most pressing societal challenges and cultivate a responsibility to their community through service; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Perry leads the scouts by example and in 2006, Mr. Perry was honored by the Seneca District by receiving the District Award of Merit for his contribution to the Boy Scouts program. In 2007, he received the Silver Beaver Award from Boy Scouts of America and in 2008, he was honored by receiving the Whitney Young Jr. award; and,

 

WHEREAS, active in many organizations, Mr. Perry was one of Pittsburgh Courier’s Fifty Men of Excellence awardees in 2010, he is an elder at Bidwell Presbyterian Church and served as Worshipful Master for Star of the West Lodge #62 of Prince Hall Masons, and he was elected as president of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus, Pittsburgh Chapter; and,

 

WHEREAS, most of all, Mr. Perry is a humble and loving husband to his wife Anita Perry for thirty-five years, father to Christopher, Grace, Milea, Dora, and Quentin, grandfather of seven grandchildren, and great grandfather of two great-grandchildren;
