WHEREAS, Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council (GPLC) provides free training to Pittsburgh’s adult residents, helping them to develop necessary literacy skills for low-literacy adults to improve their lives, the lives of their families and communities; and,
WHEREAS, GPLC instituted the Trivia Bowl, a fundraising event, to raise money in support of its free classes in reading, writing, arithmetic, workforce development, GED preparation, testing, English as a Second Language, computer skills, and courses in financial and health literacy; and,
WHEREAS, the Trivia Bowl began in 2008 and since its inception has raised over $1,000,000 for GPLC’s programs and is now among Pittsburgh’s most popular fundraising events; and,
WHEREAS, the Ninth Annual Trivia Bowl will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council for creating adult education opportunities and declares Sunday, April 3, 2016 to be “Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council Trivia Bowl Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
