Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Ms. Alma Speed Fox and Ms. Marimba Milliones for being honored by the Allegheny County Democratic Committee Black Caucus for their civil rights and political advocacy work in Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Allegheny County Democratic Committee Black Caucus (ACDCBC) will be hosting its first annual Dorothy Height - C. Dolores Tucker Annual Scholarship and Awards Luncheon on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Pittsburgh Marriott Center City; and,

 

WHEREAS, the ACDCBC, an organization that advocates for African political empowerment in Allegheny County, created the annual luncheon to honor the works of women in the Pittsburgh area that exemplify the works of civil rights, women’s rights activist Dorothy Height, and the political youth advocate work of C. Dolores Tucker; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dorothy Height, a Rankin, PA native, worked tirelessly to improve opportunities for African-American women, and was recognized for her work by former President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama; and, 

 

WHEREAS, C. Dolores Tucker, the first female African-American Secretary of State in the nation, was renowned for her work in civil rights and as a founder and chair of the National Political Congress of Black Women; and,

 

WHEREAS, this year’s awardee for the Dorothy Height Award is Ms. Alma Speed Fox, and the awardee for the C. Dolores Tucker Award is Ms. Marimba Milliones;
