Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and congratulates B-PEP on their upcoming 30th year, and does hereby declare Tuesday, March 22nd 2016 to be "Black Political Empowerment Project Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, B-PEP, the Black Political Empowerment Project, was launched on May 21, 1986 as a non-partisan community collaborative bringing together private agencies, local non-profit organizations, religious leaders, and numerous committed individuals who together seek to build social power and influence for the African American community in the City of Pittsburgh and beyond; and,

 

WHEREAS, B-PEP accomplishes this important task by working to ensure that all African Americans in the Pittsburgh region are registered to vote and participate  actively in the election cycle; and further that those in political office move to expeditiously and effectively meet the needs, aspirations, and concerns of the African American population they are elected to serve; and,

 

WHEREAS, in addition to ensuring that African Americans participate in the voting process, B-PEP oversees other important initiatives, including the Greater Pittsburgh Coalition Against Violence (CAV) with its Youth Summits and the Corporate Equity and Inclusion Roundtable (CEIR), while also participating in the Non-profit Voter Engagement Network; and,

 

WHEREAS, B-PEP relies on the dedication and commitment of the volunteers and community partners who volunteer their time and skills to accomplish the incredibly important work of the organization; and,
