WHEREAS, THRIVE Southwest PA is a local Pittsburgh organization which seeks to nurture and empower educational communities where students, educators, and families can create and sustain LGBTQ-inclusive environments; and,
WHEREAS, THRIVE seeks to create Educational communities where students, educators, and families can celebrate, learn about, and thrive in diversity of gender identity, expression, and sexual orientation; and,
WHEREAS, THRIVE and co-presenters PA Youth Congress, PA Education Law Center, and the ACLU of PA will be hosting the Allegheny County DHS LGBTQ Community of Practice focused on Supporting LGBTQ Youth in the Education System, scheduled for March 14, 2016; and,
WHEREAS, the purpose of this Community of Practice event is to create support for families, school personnel, and service providers in increasing advocacy for safe and healthy school environments for the children and young adults in our community, with session participants leaving with a toolkit of resources to more effectively interact with both schools and advocacy organizations within the community; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does herby commend and celebrate THRIVE Southwest PA, and thanks them for their continued advocacy for the LGBTQ community of the Pittsburgh region; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, March 14th 2016 to be “THRIVE Southwest PA Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
