Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh honors the memory of Edna for the 92 years of joy that she brought to others, and; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 8, 2016 to be "Edna Mae Tuite" Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, on January 25, 2016, the Pittsburgh community suffered a great loss with the passing of to honor the life of Edna Mae Tuite, age 92, of Beechview, and;

Whereas, Edna was born in Pittsburgh on April 15, 1923. For much of her life, she was a wife, mother of five children, grandmother to eight grandchildren, and great-grandmother to two great-grandchildren, and;

Whereas, Edna was also quite the local celebrity during her 40 years spent as an employee at the Eat N Park on Banksville Road until her retirement in January of 2016, and;

Whereas, She started working at Eat N Park relatively late in life, after she'd had five children to supplement her family's income while her husband, Robert M. Tuite, was out of work because of
a steelworkers' strike, and;

Whereas, Edna worked from 7AM until 2PM, five days a week until she was 78 years old, even then only cutting back to three days per week, and;

Whereas, Edna brought joy to all with her presence at work. She loved her work and her coworkers, but most of all she loved her customers, and;

Whereas, She would waltz through work humming all the time, winding around the tables, taking orders, exchanging greetings, delivering food, laughing with customers, and pouring more coffee, and;

Whereas, Customers would ask for her Edna by name, sitting in her section by the window, and waiting for Edna to be there, even when other servers were available, and;

Whereas, in addition to her work and family, she spent her free time devoted to St. Pamphilus Church by volunteering at the church carnivals and was also a regular attendee at weekly bingos, and;

Whereas, Edna Mae Tuite will be remembered for her famous chocolate chip cookies and as a person who had a heart of gold and was everyone's "Angel on Earth", and;
