Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends Mr. Nolan for his dedication and devotion to God, his family, the City of Pittsburgh and the United States of America; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, January 2, 2016, to be "James Nolan Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, James Nolan is 90 year of age today, his family and friends join him in celebrating a life of giving, volunteerism, advocating, caring and loving; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Nolan has served as a Committeeman for the 19th Ward Democratic Committee for over 25 years, Chair of the Political Action Committee and Union Stewart for Local 66 Union of Operating Engineers in which he is currently a member, past president of the Saint Mary of the Mount Parish Council and currently, at the age of 90, serves as an usher for the Church; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Nolan initiated the first union at the Clark Candy Company, is an active member of the VFW 5111 which meets at the Grandview Social Hall in Duquesne Heights and he also served as the past commander; he is most known as the proud Marine Veteran and was instrumental in working with others in passing legislation to honor Pittsburgh Military Veterans on banners to be displayed throughout the City of Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Nolan proudly served the United States Marine Corp in WWII serving in Iwo Jima and later went on to volunteer on countless charities and numerous veteran organizations and devoted time to his beloved community of Mount Washington and Duquesne Heights and shortly thereafter, began his professional career with the City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Nolan was married to the late Regina Sullivan, with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They raised three wonderful children, son, Jeffery, whom is sadly deceased and was married to their loving daughter-in-law, Debbie; son, Jimmy Mike whom operates his hugely successful business and daughter, Jill Nolan Harris whom currently works for the Allegheny County Court system and is a volunteer extraordinaire who married Walt, sadly deceased and a Veteran Marine himself; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Nolan is the proud grandfather of four; Jimmy Paul, Jessie, Jessica, and Katie; and,
