WHEREAS, Central Catholic High School, located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh is a college preparatory, Catholic school for boys, guided by the educational principles of St. John Baptist de La Salle, which strives to provide a challenging, relevant and diverse program of studies and extracurricular activities in an environment that fosters a life of faith and learning rooted in the Gospel values of integrity, respect, service, justice and peace; and
WHEREAS, in addition to its rigorous academics, contributions to the community, impressive alumni base, and various other resources , Central Catholic High School is also known for the continued success of its Viking Football Team; and
WHEREAS, the Central Catholic Vikings have previously laid claim to three PIAA Class AAAA football championships in 1988, 2004, and 2007; and
WHEREAS, on Saturday, December 19, 2015, the Central Catholic Vikings , led by Coach Terry Totten, faced off against the Parkland High School Trojans from Allentown, PA in the PIAA Class AAAA football championship in Hershey, PA ; and
WHEREAS, in front of a crowd of more than 3,700 spectators, the Central Catholic Vikings demonstrated their superior skills as a team with a 21-18 victory, securing their title as the PIAA Class AAAA champions after a highly impressive 15-1 season.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends the Central Catholic Vikings for being the first WPIAL team to win four PIAA Class AAAA championships, and recognizes the tireless dedication, conviction and hard work that the football team and its coaching staff put into this impressive accomplishment; and, .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, January 12, 2016 to be “CENTRAL CATHOLIC VIKING FOOTBALL DAY ” in the City of Pittsburgh.
