WHEREAS, Sister Mary Ellen Williams founded a community outreach ministry program ten years ago in Sheraden With Sister Deanna Crosby. The women started a game room that brought in 80+ children three nights a week. Eventually the two began to feed the children and walked them home at night. Ultimately the two began to do outreach programs on their own, again, with family and friends volunteering; and,
WHEREAS, despite numerous illnesses, and multiple cancers, Sister Mary was unable to work but found this ministry to be healing in her own life; Adding more family and friends S.A.L.T (Save-A-Life-Today) was created. S.A.L.T. immediately begin feeding programs, workshops, back to school events, Christmas outreach for families in need, community cookouts, christian centered concerts, and theatre performances; and,
WHEREAS, Sister Mary started by servicing less that 100 children with the support of Pastor and First Lady Isaac and Charity Jere of Greater Pittsburgh Gospel Tabernacle, S.A.L.T. is now servicing over 600 children; and,
WHEREAS, S.A.L.T began their Ministry in the West End of Pittsburgh, they are now servicing North, South, East, and West of Pittsburgh, the Hill District, McKeesport, West Mifflin, Wilkinsburg, Homewood and North Versailles; and,
WHEREAS, Sister Mary on behalf of S.A.L.T. is now a liaison for Lens Crafters in Robinson providing eye care for children and adults who have no eye care insurance and a liaison for McKees Rocks Dental who is providing dental care for children and adults without dental insurance and offering a discounted dental plan for working adults without employer-paid plans; and,
WHEREAS, the mission statement for S.A.L.T. is enhancing the mind, body and soul through outreach programming and activities. S.A.L.T. believes if they can reach and heal the parents, that will in turn heal the children and subsequently heal the community, to extend a helping hand without stripping away the pride and dignit...
