WHEREAS, The Bishop Canevin Girls Volleyball Team, led by Head Coach Kevin Walters, Assistant Coach Pete Barakat and 11 Seniors, captured its second WPIAL title in the program's history after defeating Shenango on November 7, 2015; and,
WHEREAS, throughout the State Playoffs, the team illustrated perseverance, determination, hard work and unity, which lead to an appearance in the PIAA Class A State Championship; and,
WHEREAS, on November 21, 2015, the Bishop Canevin Girls Volleyball team became the first team in school history to sweep their opponent, the North Star Cougars, 3-0 for the PIAA Class A State Title; and,
WHEREAS, after missing most of the 2014 season due to severe health problems, Head Coach Kevin Walters prevailed to coach full-time this season and lead the team to extraordinary levels of success; and,
WHEREAS, Bishop Canevin High School, located in the Oakwood neighborhood of District 2, has a history of excellence in academics, sports and community service which is centered in the Catholic faith; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Coach Walters, Assistant Coach Pete Barakat, Bishop Canevin High School and the entire Girls Volleyball Team on their WPIAL and PIAA Class A State Title, including the following:
