WHEREAS, the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council (GPAC) serves as the voice for arts and culture across the Greater Pittsburgh region. GPAC offers expert programs, resources, and research that strengthens and ensures a thriving regional creative community, and positions the arts as an important part of community revitalization, education, tourism, business, and economic development; and,
WHEREAS, ten years ago, GPAC formed initially as a grassroots organization comprised of a handful of arts organizations committed to driving shared resources. GPAC early on recognized its critical role at driving arts audiences and patrons to help sustain and grow the cultural community; and,
WHEREAS over the past decade, GPAC has expanded to offer an array of services and resources to help arts nonprofits build their foundation, and has served as the region’s authority on arts and culture to the political and business sectors. GPAC has consistently cultivated important relationships with city, state, and federal partners to ensure support for our region’s creative sector as a contributing industry; and,
WHEREAS, on Monday, November 16, GPAC will celebrate its 10th Annual Meeting and 10th Anniversary Celebration, “Moving Forward,” where friends and colleagues will celebrate the community’s accomplishments, and hear how to work toward a collective vision for the region’s arts community.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, November 16, 2015 “Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
