Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Ed Roberson for his contributions as an author and poet; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, November 17 , 2015, to be " Ed Roberson Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Body

WHEREAS, Ed Roberson was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1939.where he attended Westinghouse High School. He went on to earn his BA at the University of Pittsburgh and later completed graduate work at Goddard College. His first collection of poetry, When Thy King Is a Boy (Pitt Poetry), was released in 1970, the same year that he completed his undergraduate degree; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ed Roberson is the author of the nationally acclaimed poetry collections Atmosphere Conditions (Green Integer, 1999) and Voices Cast Out to Talk Us In (University of Iowa Press, 1995). He has been described by renowned poetry critic Michael Palmer as “one of the most deeply innovative and critically acute voices of our time.”;and,

 

WHEREAS, Ed Roberson was the recipient of the Stephen Henderson Critics Award for Achievement in Literature, Roberson has also won an LA Times Book Award, the 2008 Shelley Memorial Award from The Poetry Society of America, the 1998 National Poetry Series Award, and the Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest Writers’ Award ; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ed Roberson formerly served as a professor of literature and creative writing at Rutgers University, Roberson now resides in Chicago, where he has taught at the University of Chicago and Columbia College Chicago. He is currently Artist-in-Residence at Northwestern University; and,
