WHEREAS, mentorship is a vital community service benefitting both the mentor and the mentee, and which serves to create the intergenerational bonds which strengthen the sense of community in our many city neighborhoods; and,
WHEREAS, in 2015 Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto and the City of Pittsburgh Personnel Department announced the Mayor’s Mentoring Initiative, a cooperative effort seeking to encourage mentorship across the city and in particular among city employees; and,
WHEREAS, Project Primavera has joined the City of Pittsburgh in the effort to promote positive mentorship in our communities by organizing Mentorfest, a celebration of music and community partners with the goal of bringing attention to mentoring initiatives and to celebrate those who participate in mentoring; and,
WHEREAS, special thanks should be given to all of the musical acts which have come to Pittsburgh to join in the celebration, as well as to all of those groups and individuals who have worked to organize and sponsor this amazing event; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and celebrates Mentorfest, and encourages all of our fellow citizens to volunteer their time by joining in one of the many great mentorship programs in the region; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, October 24th 2015 to be “Mentorfest Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
