WHEREAS, Dilworth Pre-K - 5th Grade is a Pittsburgh Public Magnet School, a traditional school with an emphasis on Arts and Humanities; and
WHEREAS, in 1910 John C. Dilworth proposed his late mother Mary's two-acre estate as the location for an East End District High School in response to the city's plans to construct district high schools throughout Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, this site would eventually be used for the construction of an elementary school and named after Mrs. Dilworth by the Board of Education; and
WHEREAS, on December 3rd, 1915, Pittsburgh's East End community gathered to mark the official opening of Dilworth Elementary School, on Stanton Avenue between Collins and Meadows Streets; and
WHEREAS, Dilworth Elementary School was listed on the national Register of Historic Places in 1986, designated a Pittsburgh Landmark in 1997, and a City of Pittsburgh Historic Structure in 1999; and
WHEREAS, in 1999 it began the foundation work leading to it becoming a magnet school for the arts and humanities in 2004 and realizing the vision of Mr. Robert O'Keefe; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Dilworth serves over 500 students and families across numerous communities including Highland Park, Lawrenceville, Bloomfield, Morningside, Garfield, Stanton Heights, North Side, Lincoln/Lemington, Whittier, Homewood, East Hills, Southside, and the Hill District; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Dilworth has had solid leadership for nearly 20 years by past principal Mr. Robert O' Keefe and current principal Dr. Monica D. Lamar with support of the Pittsburgh Public Schools Board of Directors, Superintendent Dr. Linda Lane, the Highland Park Community, and Dilworth's families and staff; and

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize, celebrate, and commend Pittsburgh Dilworth Elementary School for educating students for 100 years; and
