Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the Pittsburgh Technology Council for its ongoing work to advance the mission of STANDING FIRM , reflecting the organization's belief that a strong, talented, healthy workforce is a company's most valuable asset, and a safe workplace environment is one in which employees thrive. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, October 22, 2015, to be "PITTSBURGH TECHNOLOGY COUNCIL" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, STANDING FIRM, the business case to end partner violence in the workplace, was founding in 2009 by Dr. Pat Cluss and is a non-profit organization whose goal is to alert employers to financial, safety and human costs of partner violence in the workplace and to offer them tools for taking effective organizational action; and,

WHEREAS, STANDING FIRM teaches their member employers how to recognize that partner violence is a business issue that affects productivity and security, how to respond appropriately from a menu of actions steps to address the effects of partner violence and then how to refer to existing community resources for services that the employer does not have the expertise or ability to provide. Standing Firm has nearly 300 employee members who participate in their valuable services in the Pittsburgh area; and,

WHEREAS, STANDING FIRM will be holding its 2nd Annual Awards Luncheon on October 22, 2015 where it will award the 2015 STANDING FIRM EMPLOYER AWARD to the PITTSBURGH TECHNOLOGY COUNCIL in recognition of superior integration of business practices addressing partner violence

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Technology Council has been an employer member of STANDING FIRM since 2010, demonstrating a thorough understanding that partner violence is a workplace issue which affects all employees. Adopting a comprehensive policy on partner violence, PTC has implemented employee training and, in addition, its staff and managers have received STANDING FIRM training. PTC reaches 1100 member companies in the Pittsburgh region with its message, and in 2014, PTC President and CEO Audrey Russo published a thoughtful column about the effects of workplace violence in PTC's bi-monthly trade publication, reaching 40,000 readers
