Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday-Wednesday, October 4-7, 2015, to be "Public School Retirees Recognition Days" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, every aspect of a child's educational experience is impacted by a school employee; from the time students board a school bus to homeroom listening to morning announcements; the time spent in the classroom learning to the time interacting with peers; the time eating lunch in the school cafeteria until it is time to head back home again; and,     

WHEREAS, those retired individuals who have dedicated their careers and lives to the public school system, whether they be Teachers and Counselors, Special Education Staff or Nurses, Administrators, Secretaries and Aides,  Support Staff , Cafeteria Workers, Maintenance Workers,  Custodial Staff, or Bus Drivers, they should be recognized for their contributions; and, 

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Association of School Retirees (PghASR), a

voluntary organization of over 1,400 Pittsburgh School retirees, has been recognizing and serving all retired Pittsburgh school employees for over 60 years; and,

WHEREAS,  the state convention, co-hosted by PghASR, is a grand assembly of nearly 400 dedicated retirees from Pennsylvania school districts, held this year at Station Square from October 4-7, 2015 with the theme “Retirement Is Re-creation”. The convention serves as a venue to enhance retirement through personal enrichment seminars, plenary sessions dedicated to the business of PASR, and experience our city through excursions across Pittsburgh; and, 

WHEREAS, in addition to the state convention, PghASR advocates for the benefits of all school retirees and offers its members opportunities to interact with state and local politicians on important issues; they offer scholarships to Pittsburgh Public School students, host speakers on topics of interest for retirees, offers places to socialize with colleagues, volunteer in the community and much more; and, 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED,  that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend all public school retirees for their commitment to the education and lives of our children and recognize the Pittsburgh Association of School Retirees for its dedication to its members; and,
