Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 29, 2015, to be "WIB Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Women In Bio (WIB) is an organization for professionals committed to promoting careers, leadership, and entrepreneurship for women in the life sciences. Members belong to biotech and pharma companies, universities and institutes, law and accounting firms, marketing and public relations firms, CRO's and CMO's.  Over the past 10 years WIB has expanded to 13 chapters nationwide and has become a community representing one of the fastest growing and most influential organizations for women in life sciences; and,

WHEREAS, The WIB-Pittsburgh mission is to promote entrepreneurship, innovation, education, and mentorship among women across the regions of Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and West Virginia, by providing programming and networking opportunities. WIB-Pittsburgh is committed to increasing the impact of local women on the growth of the region by supporting their careers and professional development; and,

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh chapter of WIB will held their second annual P.O.W.E.R. (Pittsburgh’s Outstanding Women Entrepreneurs Rally) event on September 21, 2015.  P.O.W.E.R. 2015 highlighted the impact women have made in revolutionizing healthcare.  Individualized diagnostic tools, innovative medical devices, and self-monitoring tools are transforming healthcare in ways never before imagined and many women entrepreneurs are on the leading edge of this revolution; and,

WHEREAS,WIB will present the first ever P.O.W.E.R. Award recognizing a Pittsburgh woman entrepreneur who has helped to shape this evolving landscape of healthcare. The 2015 P.O.W.E.R. award will be presented to Dottie Clower, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer of Cohera Medical, Inc.  Dr. Clower has excelled as an entrepreneur, leading the advancement of TissuGlu® Surgical Adhesive, an adhesive for holding internal tissue layers together after surgery, from a laboratory concept to development, complete with FDA approval as a Class III PMA medical device.  Cohera Medical, Inc., based in Pittsburgh, continues to be a growing company creating new and innovative surgical adhesives and sealants; and,   

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend, Women In Bio and the 2015 P.O.W.E.R. awardees for their contribution to the life sciences field ; and,
