Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Steve Beckman for his commitment and dedication to the soccer community and for his part in the advancement of the sport of soccer for youth and adults in our region and congratulates him on his upcoming retirement ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, September 27, 2015, to be "STEVE BECKMAN DAY " in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, pride and hard work have marked the life of Steve Beckman who came to this country from Romania as a 15 year old boy. Having played soccer since the age of 4 and disappointed that there was no organized soccer in his new home in the Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh, he played hooker for the Pittsburgh Rugby Association in high school and then started a Club Soccer Program at Point Park College where he captained, played , managed and coached until graduation. That club program became the Point Park Varsity Soccer Team; and,

WHEREAS, years later, while signing his children up for Dynamo Soccer at the Sq Hill Library, Steve became involved with the organization by becoming its first Recreation Commissioner and establishing a life- long relationship with Larry Solomon of Dynamo and PA West Soccer ; and,

WHEREAS, Steve began a long tenure in the region's soccer community as a Coach, BP, Indoor Commissioner and Referee in Dynamo Soccer and with the Dynamo Adult Soccer Program as well. He put two teams into the Over 30 Pittsburgh South Soccer League but went on to leadership positions in the PA West Soccer League, serving ten 2 year terms as Amateur Director and expanding the League to include Over 30, Over 50, Men's Open, Women's Open and Co-Ed; and,

WHEREAS, Steve is the owner of Pittsburgh Soccer and Sports on Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill/Greenfield and is planning to retire from his soccer activities in Pittsburgh, close his store and relocate with his wife to be closer to his children and grandchildren in Scottsdale, AZ.
