Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, September 24, 2015 "Milton Washington Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Mr. Milton A. Washington, chairman of the Allegheny Housing Rehabilitation Corporation (AHRCO), celebrates his 80th birthday on Thursday, September 24, 2015; and,

 

WHEREAS, since moving to Pittsburgh in 1968, Milton Washington, with his wife Nancy, have embraced this city as their own, giving back through their tireless work and civic involvement; and, 

 

WHEREAS, for more than 46 years, Mr. Washington has led the rehabilitation, construction, and management of successful, affordable communities throughout our region, and has collaborated with government, business, and community agencies to provide affordable housing and promote job access for the region’s most vulnerable families; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Washingtons have volunteered with numerous educational, cultural, and civic organizations throughout Western Pennsylvania. Mr. Washington has served on the Board of Directors at the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, The Carnegie Museum, Carnegie Mellon University, Manchester Bidwell Corporation, Highmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the Extra-Mile Education Foundation, as well as a Director of Highmark, Inc. He also serves as Trustee Emeriti of Carnegie Institute; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Washington holds an M.B.A. from Temple University and a B.S. in Business Administration from LaSalle College, as well as an Honorary Doctorate from Point Park College.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, September 24, 2015 “Milton Washington Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
