WHEREAS, Father Sean Hogan, a native of County Limerick in Ireland, entered the Congregation of the Holy Spirit in 1959 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1967. First assigned to Nairobi, Kenya, he took a sabbatical in 1975 to Duquesne University and today, as the longest serving member of the University's Cabinet, Fr. Hogan will transition from Duquesne University's Executive Vice President of Student Life to the position as the first President of the newly formed Duquesne University Scholarship Association; and,
WHEREAS, at Duquesne University, Fr. Hogan was appointed Associate Director of Development in 1980 where he led the Law School's Capital Campaign for the construction of Hanley Hall. Two years later, he was named Founding Director of Duquesne University's Office of International Education which it grew from 15 international students to today's international census of 625 students from 77 countries; and,
WHEREAS, as Executive Vice President for Student Life since 1988, Fr. Hogan has shaped every aspect of the student experience at Duquesne University , which includes a nationally recognized student run Orientation Program, 180 student organizations, fraternities, sororities and residence halls. During Fr. Hogan's leadership, university enrollment increased 50% with dramatic rises in retention and graduation rates; and,
WHEREAS, Fr. Sean Hogan is "a member of the family" to many students and alumni, performing countless weddings and baptisms and staying in touch with many students as they matriculate through Duquesne. He personifies the human definition of serving God by serving students. In addition, to honor Fr. Hogan's remarkable contribution to Duquesne and its students, the student dining facility was renamed in 2001 to be the Sean Hogan Student Dining Center; and,
WHEREAS, in his new position as President of the Duquesne University Scholarship Association, he will lead a network of alumni volunteers who will work to raise...
