WHEREAS, the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood of America “Icaros” was established here in Pittsburgh in 1903; and,
WHEREAS, the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood strives to unite and cultivate close relationships among all Icarians within Pittsburgh, the United States, and Canada; and,
WHEREAS, the Pan-Icarian Foundation was founded in 1961 in order to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars for medical aid, scholarships, disaster relief, and other charitable causes in North America and Greece; and,
WHEREAS, the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood is the oldest and one of the largest Hellenic organizations in the Western Hemisphere; and,
WHEREAS, the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood hosts annual conventions, bringing together families, business meetings, and various social activities.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood for their work preserving and fostering the Icarian culture in Pittsburgh, providing national and international aid, and spearheading numerous philanthropic endeavors; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 6th 2015 to be “Pan-Icarian Brotherhood Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
