Title: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 8, 2015, to be "Lindsay Weaver-Marcenelle Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Lindsay Weaver-Marcenelle became the first female and first Latina top officer on Friday, July 13, 2012, when she was sworn in as the new Commanding Officer of U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Weaver-Marcenelle spent a year at the Naval Prep School and graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in marine science and in 2002 received a master's in public health from Tulane University in New Orleans ; and,
WHEREAS, during her 21-year career in the Coast Guard, she was the Federal Maritime Security Coordinator for the tri-state region of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio and Northern Virginia; and,
WHEREAS, as her new post as Commanding Officer, Marine Safety Unit Pittsburgh, she oversaw 328 miles of the Allegheny, Ohio and Monongahela rivers with the task of keeping rivers secure, safe from environmental pollutants and open for commerce, as well as inspecting water vessels with a unit of 59 active duty, reserve and civilian personnel; and,
WHEREAS, she received the United States Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medal for her three years of exemplary service to the Marine Safety Unit, Pittsburgh from July, 2012 to July, 2015 ; and,
WHEREAS, some of her notable achievements included, but are not limited to, ensuring the safety of the inland marine transportation system during the river icing in 2014 and 2015; setting vessel transit restriction to mitigate navigation risks in the nation's second largest inland port and recorded best practices to enhance port infrastructure readiness; and she was instrumental in getting the City of Pittsburgh Bomb Squad much needed funding in 2014; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Lindsay Weaver-Marcenelle for her dedication and devotion to her duty and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard and wish her well during her retirement wi...
