Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Michael John McCarthy for his extraordinary football achievements, including winning a Super Bowl, for his leadership ability, toughness and football knowledge and commends and congratulates Mike McCarthy for his dedication to his hometown because you can take the boy out of Greenfield but you can never take Greenfield out of the boy; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, August 23, 2015 to be " COACH MIKE McCARTHY DAY " in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS,  Mike McCarthy, Head Coach of the NFL’s Green Bay Packers was born and bred in Greenfield and educated at St. Rosalia Academy and Bishop Boyle High School. Having been an All-Conference Tight End and Team Captain at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas and with a Master’s Degree in Sports Administration from Fort Hays State, Hays Kansas, Mike McCarthy has achieved great success but never lost his love for Greenfield ; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mike is the son of Ellen and Joseph McCarthy, Jr. and one of 5 siblings , husband to Jessica and father of Alexandra, Jack, George, Gabrielle and Isabella. He was the third youngest head coach in the NFL when he was hired at age 42. He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Fort Hays State in 1987, coaching linebackers for two years and then returned to his hometown in 1989 as Quarterback Coach at the University of Pittsburgh. He broke into the NFL as a Quality Control Assistant with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1993 and then left to be the Quarterback Coach at Green Bay. In 1999, Mike began a successful five year stint as the Offensive Coordinator of the New Orleans Saints, the Offensive Coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers in 2005 and then became Head Coach of the Packers in 2006; and,   

 

WHEREAS, in 2010 , Mike led the Packers to a 10-6 season , defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, the Atlanta Falcons and the Chicago Bears to make it to Super Bowl XLV where they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 to win his first Super Bowl, the Packer’s 4th Super Bowl and a 13th NFL title overall; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mike McCarthy has immersed himself in the local communities in which he’s lived and has been a charitable and philanthropic force through the McCarthy Family Foundation. In addition to extraordinary commitments to beneficiaries in Wisconsin and Kansas and several charities close to his heart, Mike has been remarkably generous to the neighborhood in which he was raised. Mike’s philanthropy has benefited the Greenfield Baseball Association, the Greenfield Organization and St. Rosalia Academy and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Michael John McCarthy for his extraordinary football achievements, including winning a Super Bowl, for  his leadership ability, toughness and football knowledge  and commends and congratulates Mike McCarthy for his dedication to his hometown because you can take the boy out of Greenfield but you can never take Greenfield out of the boy; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, August 23, 2015 to be  “ COACH MIKE McCARTHY DAY ” in the City of Pittsburgh.
