Title

Resolution authorizing the Mayor, the Chief of Police and the Director of the Department of Public Safety to enter into a Cooperative Agreement with the Parking Authority for the purpose of sharing data in order to facilitate the recovery of wanted or stolen vehicles and enforcement of other violations.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Parking Authority enforcement agents already monitor vehicles parked in Residential Parking Permit Program (RPPP) zones, Parking Authority lots and metered areas in the City of Pittsburgh; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Parking Authority already collects license plate information of vehicles cited for illegal parking using Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Police maintains a list of wanted and stolen vehicles in the City of Pittsburgh.

 

Now therefore be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby authorize:

 

1.                     The Mayor, the Chief of Police and the Director of the Department of Public Safety to enter into an Agreement or Agreements with the Parking Authority for the purpose of sharing data collected during the process of parking enforcement in order to facilitate the recovery of stolen vehicles, identify wanted persons and assist in monitoring “Amber Alerts.”

 

2.                     The information shared within the Cooperative Agreement between the City and the Parking Authority to include license plate information and location of the vehicles, and the date and time of the vehicle enforcement.
