Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognizes, commends and congratulates Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh for their 50 years of dedicated service to the Pittsburgh community and their commitment to at risk children ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, July 18, 2015, to be "BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS DAY " in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. The vision of BBBS is that all children achieve success in life; and,

WHEREAS, , it is believed that one-to one matches are the driving force behind making an impact on children, and meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers and children provide the children with the best opportunity for success, helping at risk children beat the odds ; and,

WHEREAS, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh was established by a group of local business leaders led by Kenny Ross in 1965 when it first mentored boys facing adversity in the City of Pittsburgh. Expanding its target population to include girls in 1973, it also expanded to include Washington and Greene Counties in later years, officially becoming Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS; BBBS of Greater Pittsburgh has been awarded the "Mid -Sized Agency of the Year for 2015 and the National Board of the Year for 2015, announced at it recent national conference. Selected from more than 300 affiliates for its commitment to excellence in positive mentoring, the award recognizes dedication to programming, increased revenues to support long-lasting matches and successful sustaining relationships with community partners and donors, and,

WHEREAS, in addition to recognizing this prestigious award, BBBS will celebrate their 50th year with a Party in the Parking Lot at 5989 Centre Avenue on Saturday , July 18th, 2015.
