Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby celebrates the founding of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the New Leaders Council and congratulates the Inaugural New Leaders Fellows on their achievement, and; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare

WHEREAS,  The New Leaders Council is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) that works to recruit, train and promote the progressive political entrepreneurs of tomorrow - trendsetters, elected officials and civically-engaged leaders in business and industry who will shape the future landscape, and;

 

WHEREAS, The New Leaders Council recruits Fellows from outside traditional power structures and equips them with the skills necessary to be civic leaders in their communities and workplaces and guarantees no financial barriers to participants through New Leaders Council Institutes, which are recognized as the nation’s premiere political entrepreneurship training program, and;

 

WHEREAS, NLC graduates are an ever-expanding corps of diverse, new progressive leaders who are rising to the top of their respective fields creating an exciting network of individuals, highly-skilled in working together across sectors to improve the progressive infrastructure and ensure strong democracy, social justice, and equal opportunity, and;

 

WHEREAS, the New Leaders Council Institute were held in 35 Cities nationwide in 2015, training nearly 700 new leaders across sectors joining more than 3000 alumni across the globe, and;

 

WHEREAS, a committed all-volunteer board of Erin Belitskus, Jennifer England, Kyle Gracey, Jeannette Hickman, Selena Schmidt,  Emma Shoucair, and Megan Winters launched a New Leaders Council Chapter and Institute in Pittsburgh in 2015, and;

 

WHEREAS, on June 29th, 2015 the New Leaders Institute Pittsburgh graduated the inaugural cohort of New Leaders Fellows consisting of: Aerion Abney, Program Officer, POISE Foundation; Jordan Ball, Southwestern Regional Representative, Senator Robert Casey, Jr.; Nicholas Chubb, Policy Intern, Office of Mayor William Peduto; Rhiannon Cook, Client Marketing Coordinator, Valassis Communications; Kirk Holbrook, Legislative Assistant, State Representative Jake Wheatley, Jr.; Alix Levy, Adjunct Professor, CCAC; Hilary Marcella, Assistant Director, Phone Canvass, Clean Water Action; Megan Neuf, Constituent Liaison, Office of Councilwoman Natalia Rudiak; Charlotte Reed, Assistant Director, Office of Global Engagement, La Roche College; Erick Rigby, Partner, Camson Rigby, LLC; Kathryn Vargas, Manager, Programs for Children & Youth, United Way of Allegheny County; Megan Zirkel, Mental Health Clinician, Holy Family Institute; and Stephen Zumbrun, Attorney, Thomas H. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby celebrates the founding of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the New Leaders Council and congratulates the Inaugural New Leaders Fellows on their achievement, and; 

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare ..., “New Leaders Council, Pittsburgh Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
