WHEREAS, Edwina Kinchington, an Instructional Teacher Leader at Pittsburgh Public Schools, has been named the 2015 Pennsylvania Outstanding Biology Teacher from the National Institute of Biology Teachers; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Kinchington was a cancer researcher for eighteen years before she earned her teaching certificate. In 2009, she became a Biology and Bioinformatics teacher at Pittsburgh Science & Technology Academy 6-12; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Kinchington chairs the high school science department; is the instructional teacher leader of the body and behavior concentration; coordinates the school's senior research program; and advises the yearbook; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Kinchington is an adviser for the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute Scholars program and collaborates with principal investigators at Pitt and Carnegie Mellon University on research opportunities for students; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Kinchington holds a Bachelor's Degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of California at Berkeley and a Doctorate in Pharmacology from the University of Pittsburgh.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Pittsburgh recognizes the achievements of Dr. Kinchington and congratulates her for winning this prestigious award; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, July 14, 2015 to be “Dr. Kinchington Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
