Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and celebrate Marnie Quick for her impressive achievements on the national stage; and, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, July 7, 2015 to be "Marnie Quick Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Barack Obama Academy student Marnie Quick was one of three finalists at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards at Broadway’s Minskoff Theater, hosted by two-time Tony winner Michael Cerveris of the Broadway hit Fun Home; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Quick, daughter of proud Friendship residents Steve Quick and Karen Sloneker, a trumpet player with the Pittsburgh Ballet and the Pittsburgh Opera orchestras, was chosen as one of three finalists from a field of fifty-two nominees from twenty-six cities, was awarded a $2,500 scholarship; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Quick has won the best actress award two years in row at the Pittsburgh CLO Gene Kelly Awards for her performances in Shout! The Mod Musical and The Wiz; and,

 

WHEREAS, Marnie’s background in music and performance have prepared her well for her success on the stage; she has also performed as part of the World Music Drumming Ensemble and as a flute player while she was at Pittsburgh's Dilworth Academy. She’s currently studying Japanese at Pittsburgh Obama; and,

 

WHEREAS, since being diagnosed at age three, Ms. Quick has battled through juvenile idiopathic arthritis, which can make physical activity very painful, and has continued her theater career despite her condition.
