WHEREAS, since 1938, the Barbershop Harmony Society (also known as the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc.) was established by Owen C. Cash; and,
WHEREAS, the Barbershop Harmony Society's mission is to bring men together in harmony and fellowship to enrich lives through singing, and has the vision to be the premier membership organization for men who love to sing; and,
WHEREAS, the Barbershop Harmony Society serves to perpetuate and celebrate harmony in the barbershop style; and,
WHEREAS, the Barbershop Harmony Society promotes fellowship and friendship among men of good will; and,
WHEREAS, the Barbershop Harmony Society provides the opportunity to experience the joy of four-part a cappella singing; and,
WHEREAS, the Barbershop Harmony Society introduces and sustains music in the lives of people everywhere; and,
WHEREAS, the 2015 Barbershop Harmony Society International Convention is being held in Pittsburgh June 28, 2015 through July 5, 2015.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Barbershop Harmony Society for promoting and preserving the barbershop style as an art form.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 28th, 2015 to be "Barbershop Harmony Society International Convention Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
