Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Mitchell Brown for his contribution to emergency medical services and standards. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 23, 2015 to be the "Mitchell Brown Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Body
WHEREAS, Mitchell Brown was born in the Hill District of Pittsburgh and was among the first emergency medical service trainees of Freedom House Ambulance in 1967, the nation's first all-black, hospital-based, professionally trained emergency response program; and,
 
WHEREAS, Brown was one of the nation's early leaders in developing national standards for emergency medical service and moved on from his career in Pittsburgh to become the Director of Public Safety in the City of Cleveland and eventually the state of Ohio; and,
 
WHEREAS, Brown is now retiring from the position of Director of Public Safety from the City of Columbus, and on the occasion of his retirement, a new Fire and EMS station will be named in his honor.
