Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulates SS. Simon and Jude Parish on their 60th Anniversary of serving communities and building the Kingdom of God and commend their parish family and countless volunteers for their contribution to the longevity of the church; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, June 16, 2015, to be "Saints Simon and Jude Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, SS. Simon and Jude parish was founded 60 years ago on June 16, 1955  with their first Mass celebrated in the Fern Garden night club on June 19 and on February 11, 1956, the completed church on Greentree Road was dedicated; and,
 
WHEREAS, within 10 years, the parish outgrew the building where it served its last Mass on December 8, 1967, and it was agreed to enlarge the existing church and SS. Simon and Jude held its first Mass in the new facility on April 7, 1968; and,
 
WHEREAS,  the parish serves over 4,000 parishioners throughout Scott Township, Carnegie, Mt. Lebanon, Greentree and City of Pittsburgh neighborhoods consisting of 1,500 families, 130 Pre-School students and 150 Faith Formation students; and,
 
WHEREAS,  SS. Simon and Jude parish supports an Early Childhood Center, Faith Formation, and a youth group and have educated many children in their former K-8 school. Their annual festival is known in the Southwest region as one of the best and most elaborate around; and,
 
WHEREAS,  Father Jay Donahue, who believes that making Christ the center of our lives is the most important thing we can do,  welcomed Bishop David Zubik who celebrated their 60th Anniversary with the parishioners on Saturday, June 13 at the 4pm Mass; and,
