Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and celebrate the accomplishments of our fellow Pittsburgher Jesse Andrews and the talented cast of this Pittsburgh-made and inspired film, thanking also all of those who worked behind the scenes to produce and organize this amazing film; and, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, June 16th 2015 to be "Jesse Andrews' Me and Earl and the Dying Girl Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Mr. Jesse Andrews is a Pittsburgh native and graduate of Pittsburgh Public School's Schenley High School and Harvard University; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Andrews is the author of the New York Times bestselling novel Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, published by Amulet Books in 2012 and recently adapted by the author into a screenplay for a major motion picture; and,

WHEREAS, the film, set and shot in the former Schenley High School building in Pittsburgh's North Oakland neighborhood by Indian Paintbrush, who later partnered with Fox Searchlight Pictures for worldwide distribution, is a testament to the flourishing film industry that has contributed so significantly to the dynamic growth of our City on the international stage; and,

WHEREAS, the classrooms, hallways, and auditorium that were used in the film are some of the same locations where Mr. Andrews spent his time as a high school student in Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Andrews grew up Point Breeze, and his love for his community is evident as he used his own childhood home as a set for the film; and,

WHEREAS, in early showings Me and Earl and the Dying Girl has received rave reviews, winning several prestigious awards at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, including the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award; and,

WHEREAS, celebrating the launch of the film, several star members of the film's cast and important members of the crew will be in the Pittsburgh region for a premier showing at the AMC Waterfront Theater; including Jesse Andrews, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, RJ Cyler, Olivia Cooke, and Thomas Mann.
