BODY
WHEREAS, Marcia Ann Cohen and Melvin Edward Solomon met in Pittsburgh, PA on a blind date where they went to The Arena to see Tony Bennett and Joe Williams from the Count Basie Band; and,
WHEREAS, after a fun-filled courtship where Mel's mother liked Marcia and Marcia's mother liked Mel , they became engaged in September 1964 and were married on April 11, 1965 at the Pittsburgh Hilton by Rabbi Herman Halperin of Tree of Life. Attendants in this milestone wedding were Marcy Gross, Lois Felser, Cyma Dolan as Bridesmaids, Jean Cohen as the Matron of Honor and Jennifer Cohen as Flower Girl and Groomsmen Jim Grossman, Howard Gross, Harry Pearle, Michael Hourvitz,, Jerry Dolan, Mel Cohen and David Solomon as the Best Man ; and,
WHEREAS, today, blessed with the largest Cousins Club west of the Alleghenies and two handsome and accomplished sons, Jeffrey and Kyle, 2 beautiful daughters- in- law, Linda and Jessica, and 5 bright, beautiful and talented grandchildren, Ryan, Spencer, Kate, Mason and Noa, Mel and Marcia revel in the size , warmth and love of their immediate and extended families and the devotion and connections to their many and varied friends ; and,
WHEREAS; Mel and Marcia will be celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a party given by their family on Saturday, June 6, 2015 , at the Hotel Monaco and will share stories, memories and good times with friends and family from Pittsburgh and around the country.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulates Mel and Marcia Solomon, affectionately known as Melvy and Malke, on the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary and wishes them good health and happiness for many more years to come; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, June 6, 2015, to be " MEL AND MARCIA SOLOMON DAY " in the City of Pittsburgh.
