Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that on this second anniversary of Robert's passing the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the brilliant light that Robert's life was to those who knew him and loss of his life not only as a loss to Robert's family and friends, but as a loss to the entire Pittsburgh community. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, June 12th 2015 "Robert Perry-Nichols Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Robert Perry-Nichols was born on May 30, 1992 and departed this life to join his heavenly Father on June 12th, 2013. He is survived by his father Mike Nichols and remembered by his family, friends, and the entire Pittsburgh community for his immense love of life and family; and
 
WHEREAS, Robert lived with sickle-cell anemia and was involved with the Childrens' Sickle Cell Foundation, a foundation committed to the well-being of children with sickle cell disease and their families, which is celebrating its 12th Anniversary this year; and
 
WHEREAS, on February 11th,  2011 Robert Perry-Nichols made history at the age of 18 as the first young African American to receive a double-lung transplant; and
 
WHEREAS, Robert made further history as his surgery was the first of its kind to ever be performed at UPMC Presbyterian, a step which has helped launch new research and treatment options for this disease; and
 
WHEREAS, Robert will be remembered for far more than his historic surgery, Robert will be remembered as a son, grandson, brother, uncle, and friend. Robert will be remembered for his enjoyment of sports, his good manners, and his love of all things Batman.
 
WHEREAS, Robert will be remembered for "staying strong and looking ahead to God", and his life is an example to us all.
