Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate PPG Industries for its commitment to the communities where their employees live and work, for being a responsible business, employer and neighbor and for its focus on education and community sustainability; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, May 29, 2015, to be "COLORFUL COMMUNITIES DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Colorful Communities is PPG's first-ever, global signature initiative that aims to enhance, protect and beautify community assets in neighborhoods where PPG operates; and,
 
WHEREAS, the program will incorporate PPG employee volunteers, products and charitable giving to bring color and vitality to communities around the world. In 2015, 14 projects in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, the United States and Canada and Latin America are planned. The two in the United States are in Cleveland and Pittsburgh; and,    
 
WHEREAS, in Pittsburgh, PPG is working with Propel Hazelwood for the inaugural Colorful Communities project launch to inspire and invigorate students. Propel Hazelwood has 200 students in grades K-4 and is the first neighborhood elementary school in Hazelwood since 2006; and,
 
WHEREAS, a $50,000 Colorful Communities grant and the work of more than 75 PPG employee volunteers helped coat more than 6,000 square feet of walls in corridors and classrooms with 58 gallons of colorful PPG paint. The grant also funded Propel Schools' "Engineering is Elementary" program for 336 first-grade students to participate in hands-on science projects.
