WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Colfax K-8, founded in 1911, is a Pittsburgh Public School located in Squirrel Hill that draws from five diverse communities; and,
WHEREAS, Colfax K-8 started its wrestling program four years ago through the help of parents, students, and the Colfax community. Ryan Schmiedlin took over as the team's coach last year, and his efforts have led to an increased interest in the sport, as well as an increasing roster size; and,
WHEREAS, this year, nine Colfax wrestlers made their way to championship finals, five of whom won individual championships, including: Troy Jacobson, Darius Bruce, Ariel Holstein, Sean Graves, and Chris Dotson. Other wrestlers who contributed key wins to this season's team included: Anmar Al Saadi, Ian Denshaw, Erin Yelverton, Dylan Mayer, Josh Morris, Daniel Caplan, Ian Frank, Dvonne Strothers, Jack O'Connor, Caleb Evoy, and Aidan Cook; and,
WHEREAS, 2015 marks the first time in history that Colfax has won the Pittsburgh City League Wrestling Team Championship, their win being the result of tireless work and dedication during the season, all done while displaying the highest level of sportsmanship. The Colfax wrestling team proved that determination, perseverance, and respect are essential elements that create champions.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate the Colfax Wrestling Team for concluding the 2014-2015 wrestling season with extraordinary dedication and passion, bringing home the school's first-ever Pittsburgh City League Wrestling Team Championship. The council recognizes and applauds Coach Ryan Schmiedlin for his successful coaching, and commends parents, students, and the Colfax community for their support during this special season; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, June 3, 2015, to be "Colfax Wrestling Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
