Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby thank Mr. John Eberlein for his years of commitment and service to the residents of the City of Pittsburgh and congratulate him on his retirement; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 26, 2015, to be "John Eberlein Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, John Eberlein will be retiring at the end of May 2015 after over 42 years with the City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works, 5th Division; and,

WHEREAS, John began with the City of Pittsburgh in 1972 as a Laborer for the 5th Division in Elliott, formerly located on Steuben Street in the West End, and is currently 2nd in command of the Division; and,

WHEREAS, it is difficult to summarize all of the contributions of someone who has been so committed to the City of Pittsburgh, but here are some highlights of his tenure with the city: He has worked through two blizzards: the blizzard of 1993, with a three-day total accumulation of snow totaling 25.3 inches, and most recently in February 2010, when the city was covered with 21.1 inches of snow; and,

WHEREAS, he was on the job during two tornadoes: the first one occurring on June 2, 1998, when a twister went through Mount Washington and Elliott, which damaged several homes and structures in the area, uprooted trees, littered the area with debris and sheared several trees lining Herschel Field, and the second one occurring on August 9, 2007, which produced multiple funnel clouds uprooting trees and causing projectile damage on Chartiers Avenue in Sheraden; and,

WHEREAS, finally, he covered the 5th Division during the G20 summit held in Pittsburgh September 24-25, 2009, and has completed many "Redd Ups" and "Green Ups" in addition to working with numerous athletic associations in District 2 ensuring the safety of the fields for our children; and,

WHEREAS, John will celebrate his retirement with his lovely wife, Mary, of 39 years this July; his two children, daughter Dawn Marie and son-in-law Jay Timko; and son Christopher and daughter-in-law Heather; and five grandchildren: twins Krysta and Skyler, age 15, twins Kaleb and Abigail, age 10, and 4-year-old Gianna; and,
