Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Cellone's Bakery for its success and continued growth in the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, May 28, 2015, to be "Cellone's Bakery Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Cellone's Bakery was founded in 1911 by brothers Ralph and Tony Cellone, who immigrated to Pittsburgh from Torino, Italy, building a brick oven in their basement and delivering Italian baked goods door-to-door by the use of a horse-drawn wagon; and,

WHEREAS, in 1950, Ralph's son Ernest Cellone, the inventor of the "original egg bun," and his wife, Kathryn, led the company where Ernest's children, Randy, Jay, Laurie, and the late Kristin, have been lifelong employees; and,

WHEREAS, in 1975, Randy and Jay Cellone took over Cellone's and moved to an expanded facility in East Carnegie, where the bakery has seen its largest period of growth; in 2009, Jay Cellone, who is still involved in the business, retired and the current president, Randy Cellone, continues to move the bakery forward; and,

WHEREAS, the company is in its 104th year and its fourth generation of family ownership, currently employing over 140 full-time employees, of which 14 family members are involved in the day-to-day operations. They deliver to over 250 groceries and 1,500 restaurants in the tri-state area and is expanding their frozen product line, which has national distribution; and,

WHEREAS, currently operating in East Carnegie with a breadcrumb bakery in their original building in Bridgeville, and in their newest facility on Napor Boulevard, part of the Thornburg industrial area in District 2, celebrating with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, May 28; and,

WHEREAS, Cellone's will be doubling their production capacity, generating approximately 50 new full-time positions for Pittsburgh-area residents during the expansion on Napor Boulevard; and,
