Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and honor the Sterrett Academy students, their teacher, Mrs. Natalie Bobak, and principal, Dr. Michelle Holly, for their outstanding achievements in the 2015 National History Bee; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 12, 2015, to be "Sterrett Academy Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The National History Bee (NHB) is a team academic competition for middle school students across the United States; and,
 
WHEREAS, The NHB uses a fun and exciting four-quarter format to test knowledge of a wide range of historical topics that have direct relevance to what students are learning in the classroom. Teams of up to six students face off against other top history scholars in their area in our Regional rounds. The top teams from each Regional qualify for the national Championships held in Louisville, Kentucky, from May 22-24, 2015; and,
 
WHEREAS, On April 8, 2015, Pittsburgh Sterrett Academy was host to one of the Regional sites. It included contestants from all over Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia (75 in all). Five students from Sterrett competed. Those students were: Jacob Allen, Jakobi Deslouches, Michal Hajlasz, Truman Jury and Leo Sweeney; and,
 
WHEREAS, The top ten contestants went on to the second round where four students from Sterrett Academy qualified. Those students who qualified were Jacob Allen, Jakobi Deslouches, Truman Jury and Leo Sweeney; and,
 
WHEREAS, In the final round, Sterrett was represented by two of the four remaining contestants: Truman Jury and Leo Sweeney. After a tough battle, Leo Sweeney was crowned Regional Champion! He, along with Jacob, Jakobi, and Truman will represent Sterrett Academy in the National History Bee in Louisville; and,
