WHEREAS, Mr. Charles Benjamin "Chuck" Jackson began his professional music career in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, singing lead baritone with the chart-topping Doo Wop group the Del-Vikings from 1957 to 1959; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson wrote and recorded his first hit, "I Don't Want to Cry," in 1961 and in 1962, he gained fame by singing his classic R&B tune, "Any Day Now." That song placed Mr. Jackson among the top five male R&B and Pop singers in the world. It was one of the biggest hits of the era and among the most enduring songs in popular music in the latter half of the 20th century; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson has recorded on the Clock, Wand, Motown, ABC, EMI and Platinum labels releasing 24 albums. Mr. Jackson's CD "I'll Never Get Over You" received a Grammy nomination for Best Duet with Dionne Warwick for the song "If I Let Myself Go"; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson is an accomplished producer, having produced such "musical giants" as Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Freddie Jackson and Regina Belle, Tom Jones, Michael McDonald, Boys II Men, Aretha Franklin, Michael Henderson and Pittsburgher's Phyllis Hyman and Stanley Turrentine; and,
WHEREAS, among Mr. Jackson's honors and awards during his illustrious career are his induction into the Apollo Theater Hall of Fame, designation as an "American Treasure" by the Smithsonian Institution, induction into the National Black Sports and Entertainment Hall of Fame for Cultural Achievement, recipient of the Motown Heroes & Legends Award, the Anheuser Busch Eagle Award for Living Legends, and the Rhythm and Blues Foundation Pioneer Award. Mr. Jackson is a permanent member of New York City's prestigious Friars Club, in such company as Harry Belafonte, Sammy Davis Jr., and Frank Sinatra; and
