Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the work of these partner organizations to bring national attention to Pittsburgh's story. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 5, to be Resurgent Pittsburgh Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, BLK SHP is a national movement of leading creative thinkers, writers, policy-makers, artists, entrepreneurs, investors, and social entrepreneurs with the mission to build and nurture ecosystems that help unlock the creativity and voices of socially conscious innovators while providing a platform to create and disseminate cutting-edge thought leadership, art, and culture, and socially influential ventures to a wider public; and,

WHEREAS, BLK SHP has embarked on a bus trip across the United States in search of America's "True North" bringing leading influencers and doers on a journey into small towns, former industrial heartlands, and into resilient communities to exchange views and sketch out a vision for America's path forward; and,

WHEREAS, on Monday, May 4, 2015, BLK SHP was in Pittsburgh to learn from local leaders who are working to reinvent Pittsburgh from the ground up - bringing national attention to Pittsburgh's story; and,

WHEREAS, this event worked to uncover Pittsburgh's "True North." In partnership with Pittsburgh thought leaders, BLK SHP engaged the community in conversations, around five major themes: (1) the state of new economy in America, (2) the state of government, (3) the state of education, (4) the state of culture and civic society, and (5) the state of our natural environment; and,

WHEREAS, three prominent community partner organizations came together to bring BLK SHP to Pittsburgh: GTECH, Thrill Mill, and Radiant Hall, each with a mission to build stronger community in the Pittsburgh region by encouraging arts, community development, and sustainability; and,

WHEREAS, additional individuals representing community and national partners came together to join in this discussion including: LUMA Institute, The Pittsburgh Promise, Frick Environmental Charter School, Columbia University, Nonprofit Talent, The Economist, UpPrize, Urban Innovation 21, Next Pittsburgh, The Misfit Economy, Deeplocal, jazz music, and MTV; a...
