Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and celebrate the Pittsburgh Summer Youth Employment Program and specifically thanks Hannibal Hopson for his service to the people of Council District 3; and, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 5th, 2015, to be "Hannibal Hopson Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in April 2014 Mayor William Peduto, the City of Pittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh Partnership announced the 2014 Pittsburgh Summer Youth Employment Program, a locally funded summer employment drive with the intent to employ nearly 500 local youth workers; and,

WHEREAS, the program was created with the goal of facilitating the professional development of Pittsburgh's best and brightest young residents, providing them with valuable work experiences; and,

WHEREAS, the program was incredibly successful in this endeavor, employing young people in a large variety of part-time jobs and internships, including technical and general office work in local businesses and non-profit organizations, outdoor positions including restoration and conservation projects within city parks and other public property, and vacant lot cleanups; and,

WHEREAS, Hannibal Hopson, junior-year student at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and resident of Pittsburgh's Point Breeze neighborhood, was selected by the program and brought to work in the District 3 Council Office, taking on many complex and important tasks in the daily workings of the office, including assisting in community relations, attending community meetings, managing several internal office functions, and creating a successful "Good News" newsletter which is viewed by hundreds of council district residents every month; and,

WHEREAS, in his consummately professional demeanor and unrivaled creativity, Hannibal embodies the bright future that lies ahead for the City of Pittsburgh, whose young residents continue to cement our growth into the modern, world-class city that we have become; and,
