Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the achievements of the Bloomfield neighborhood combined with the leadership of Bloomfield Citizens Council and the Bloomfield Business Network for their role in making the Pittsburgh Marathon a landmark event in the City of Pittsburgh.

Body
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Marathon began in 1985 with Bloomfield Citizens Council providing a water station for runners. This race has become a destination race in the region and a point of pride for residents, runners, and event organizers alike; and,
 
WHEREAS, the marathon route takes advantage of Pittsburgh's diverse and vibrant neighborhoods, including Downtown, Southside, Homewood, Highland Park, and Bloomfield, and was recently rated by the Active Times as the 8th best marathon in the world, recognizing the enthusiastic neighborhood crowds; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Bloomfield Citizens Council and the Bloomfield Business Network have been welcoming and accommodating to runners and race viewers, and have provided all-ages entertainment on race day with music, food, and activities for kids; and,
 
WHEREAS, Bloomfield was recognized with the "2014 Best Neighborhood on the Course" award from the organizers and sponsors of the Pittsburgh Marathon for their exceptional hospitality and programming during the race, sponsored by the Bloomfield Citizens Council, with 160 volunteers at two water stations in the 22nd mile; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Bloomfield Business Network is organizing the Bloomfield Marathon Mingle event for Saturday, May 2, and is looking to build on the abundant success of last year's event.
