Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Steel City FC for their commitment to improving the activity and voice of female soccer players and athletes in the Pittsburgh community. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the week of May 4th to be "Steel City FC Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, a new semi-professional women's soccer club, Steel City FC, was founded in 2014 as the world began gearing up for the women's World Cup; and,
 
WHEREAS, Steel City FC's objective is to inspire young women and girls, and to strengthen their position in the world; creating a platform for local female athletes to engage with the community; and,
 
WHEREAS, Steel City FC aims to create local leaders, generate channels of opportunity for young girls; and develop a sustainable women's soccer team that supports women's athletics for the entire community; and,
 
WHEREAS, Steel City FC is working toward building a sustainable team that will also eventually bring revenue to the city and position Pittsburgh as a leading city in the promotion of female athletics; and,
 
WHEREAS, Steel City FC founders believe that sport has the power to unite, inspire, and empower women in a way that little else does; and,
 
WHEREAS, Steel City FC hopes that the 45,000 youth who play soccer in Western Pennsylvania can look up to the first women's semi-professional soccer team and lay the foundation for Pittsburgh's next generation of female soccer players.
